Reach A Ride is a gateway furnished by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. It provides transportation options for individuals with special transportation needs in the National Capital Region. This web site, along with an information hotline provides links to transportation for employment, health and medical services, educational services, and other needed trips. This web site includes a searchable database to allow people with special transportation needs, as well as case managers and agencies, to find transportation in the National Capital Region.

About Us

In August 2010, Reach A Ride was founded to establish a web-accessible database of specialized transportation information in the National Capital Region. Reach A Ride also provides telephone support for consumers and social service agencies for improved access to information about the multitude of transportation options for people with disabilities, older adults, persons with limited English proficiency and low-income commuters. The toll-free number is 855-Reach A Ride (855-732-2427).

This regional database continues to be updated on a regular basis. Participants are provided a unique login to the system and asked to make changes to their agency's information on an as needed basis. The development of the Reach A Ride database and website was supported by the contribution of technical services from:

  • The Regional Clearinghouse Working Group
  • The American Foundation for the Blind Consulting Services
  • KFH Group

The COG/TPB Alternative Commute Program will continue to maintain the site. Funding for maintenance of the data and the site has been provided through a Job Access and Reverse Commute grant, matched by WMATA and provided by the Federal Transit Administration. Current funding will expire on June 30th, 2017.

Title VI

In April 2015, the COG Board of Directors adopted a "Title VI Plan to Ensure Nondiscrimination in all Programs and Activities" which was developed to document the efforts COG undertakes on a continual basis to ensure compliance with Title VI and related statutes regarding nondiscrimination and environmental justice.
